Artistic Programs

New Music Mondays- 9pm Jam 

This weekly jam session is curated with an eye towards exploring the history of jazz through the compositions and styles of important artists, styles, movements and regions.

Piano Starts Here

Six times per year since 2012, local jazz pianists explore and pay tribute to historic jazz piano/composer icons. This has included great composers such as Duke Ellington, Mary Lou Williams, Sonny Clark, Thelonious Monk, Sun Ra, Bill Evans, Fats Waller, Keith Jarrett, Paul Bley, Herbie Hancock and Herbie Nichols. Local pianists have included Marc Seales, Dawn Clement, Tim Kennedy, Gus Carns, Bill Anschell, Darius Wilrich, Ray Skjelbred, Ryan Burns, Robin Holcomb, Jake Svendsen, Dave Peck, Jovino Santos Neto, Nelda Swiggett, Aaron Otheim, Sumi Tonooka, Alex Guilbert, Carolyn Graye, Randy Halberstadt, Eric Verlinde, Michael Owcharuk, Marina Albero, Ron Weinstein, Josh Rawlings and Wayne Horvitz.

 

Festivals

This program presents and nurtures  festivals celebrating a wide range of musical styles and cultures, including:

  • Latin Festival

  • Ancient to Future Festival

  • Blues Festival

  • Women in Jazz

  • Psychedelic Festival

  • Women in Country Music

  • Brazilian Festival

  • Caribbean Festival

  • Improvised Music Festival

  • Earshot Jazz Festival

  • Film music from movies of historical and cultural import ranging from "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" to "Black Panther"

 

Royal Room Collective Music Ensemble

Since 2012, the RRCME has performed regularly on Monday nights. The RRCME performs a blend of structured and conducted improvisations based on a wide range of musical material. Two CDs and eight years later, they are still going strong.
